King of the Beasts - Linocut by NitrusOxide King of the Beasts - Linocut by NitrusOxide
Four color reductive lino-block print. The assignment was man’s influence on nature.

This piece is about the way that people impose human characteristics and morals onto animals. Doing so is an act of egocentricity, and because the lion is traditionally seen as a symbol of pride, I thought it would be fitting. Flowers are lily of the valley, for humility, and amaryllis, for pride. Looked at medieval bestiaries for inspiration.

Of course, I’ve also had Game of Thrones on the mind, as of late. Favorite character just happens to be a Lannister, and if you need a hint he’s one of Cersei’s brothers, and not the tall one.
